Privacy Policy
Last updated 27 September 2026 · Applies to zika.care and the Zika Care waitlist
In plain words
- Right now we only hold what you type into the waitlist form: your email, and anything else you choose to add.
- We use it to tell you when Zika Care opens for your country and language. Nothing else.
- We never sell it, never share it for advertising, and there are no trackers, analytics or advertising cookies on this site.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete it at any time, and we'll do it.
- Before the service launches, anyone joining gets a separate service privacy notice. Section 9 sets out what it will commit to.
Zika Care is pre-launch. This policy covers the website and waitlist, which are all that exist today. Questions go to privacy@zika.care.
1. Who we are
This website and the Zika Care waitlist are operated by Zika Care (“Zika Care”, “we”, “us”). For data-protection purposes we are the controller of the personal data described here.
Registered details: Registered address to be published at incorporation. Privacy contact: privacy@zika.care.
2. What we collect
When you join the waitlist
- Your email address (required).
- Who it’s for — for someone you love, yourself, professionally, or other (optional choice).
- Country or city, and language for the calls (optional).
- A note, if you write one (optional). Please don’t include health details or anyone else’s contact details; we don’t need them yet.
- A record of your consent: the wording you agreed to and the time you agreed.
When you visit the site
Our servers keep standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, the page requested, time) for security and to keep the site running. We don’t use these to build a profile of you. To protect the waitlist form from abuse we briefly count requests per IP address in memory; this count isn’t stored.
We do not use analytics, advertising pixels, session recording or fingerprinting.
When you email us
We keep your message and our reply so that we can help you.
3. Why we use it, and our legal basis
| Purpose | Data | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Telling you when Zika Care is available to you | Waitlist details | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
| Deciding which countries and languages to open first | Country, language, role (counted in aggregate) | Your consent |
| Keeping the site secure and working | Technical logs | Our legitimate interest in running a safe website |
| Answering you | Your emails | Our legitimate interest in replying, or steps you asked us to take |
| Meeting legal obligations | Whatever the law requires | Legal obligation |
4. Who we share it with
We never sell personal data and never share it with anyone for their own marketing.
We use a small number of service providers to host this site, store waitlist entries and send email. They act only on our instructions, under written data-processing terms, and may not use your data for their own purposes. We will list them by name on this page before launch, and on request before then.
We may disclose data if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a merger or acquisition — in which case this policy’s commitments travel with the data and you’ll be told.
5. International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where the law requires it, we use recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses, and we only choose providers whose security we’ve checked.
6. How long we keep it
- Waitlist details: until you ask us to remove them, until you become a customer (when the service privacy notice takes over), or 24 months after your last contact with us — whichever is first. Before deleting for inactivity we’ll ask once if you’d like to stay.
- Consent records: for as long as we hold the data they relate to, plus the period we may need to show we had permission.
- Technical logs: up to 30 days, unless needed to investigate a security incident.
- Emails: up to 24 months after the conversation ends.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to:
- see the personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
- have it corrected or deleted;
- withdraw consent at any time (this doesn’t affect anything we did before);
- object to or restrict how we use it;
- receive it in a portable format;
- complain to your local data-protection authority.
Write to privacy@zika.care, or simply reply to any email we send and say so. We reply within one month, and we won’t charge you. We may ask you to confirm it’s your address before acting.
8. Security
The site is served only over HTTPS with strict security headers and no third-party scripts. Waitlist data is stored with access limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever have a breach that affects you, we’ll tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
9. Our commitments for the Zika Care service
The service itself isn’t running yet. When it is, it will involve far more sensitive information — including recordings of calls with older people. Everyone who joins will receive a full service privacy notice before anything starts, and the older person will have it explained on their own call, in their language. That notice will keep these commitments:
- Her consent, separately. A family member’s agreement is never enough on its own.
- No training on her voice or words. We only use AI providers that contractually exclude training on her content. Where that isn’t possible, we don’t offer the service in that market.
- Only what’s needed. Each moment of a call sends the model only what that moment needs. Things she marks private are never sent.
- Audio deleted on a schedule. Recordings are deleted automatically after a set period, and she can ask for the exact date.
- She knows who listens. She’s told her family can hear recordings, and each access is logged where she can see it.
- Her archive is hers. Exportable in open formats, and never locked behind a subscription.
- Stored where the law requires. Data is kept in the jurisdiction her location requires.
- Encrypted, and every human access logged.
- No passwords or card numbers stored for the accounts families connect.
10. Children
This site and the waitlist are for adults. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you think we have, tell us and we’ll delete it.
11. Changes
If we change this policy we’ll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use data you’ve already given us, we’ll email you before it takes effect. See also our Cookie Policy.
