Languages

Her language, or not yet.

The models we build on can speak nearly a hundred languages. That's a list of candidates, not a promise. A voice that sounds lovely in a studio can turn to mud on a phone line, and it's the consonants that go first for someone with hearing loss.

How a language opens

Three stages, in the open.

Fully supported

Tested on real phone lines

Only after older native speakers have listened to the voice through a real narrowband phone line, and understanding their speech has been checked against a strict accuracy bar on older adults' telephone audio, not clean studio recordings.

Available, with notice

Works, with known limits

Usable, and we'll tell you exactly where it falls short before you choose it. No surprises on the first call.

Waitlist

Not yet good enough

We won't serve someone in a language we can't do well. Waitlist sign-ups for each language decide what we test next.

The honest case

Some languages and dialects — Marwari, for example — aren’t supported by any model we can use. For someone who speaks Marwari and understands Hindi, the likely answer is that she speaks her own language and it replies in Hindi. That’s a real compromise, and we’ll discuss it with you before the first call rather than let her discover it.

What you can do

Add her language and country when you join the waitlist. It’s the single most useful thing you can tell us: it decides which languages we test first and where we open. The launch list isn’t final.

Too far away? Not from their phone.
